George Coe (born May 10, 1929 – July 18, 2015) makes a guest appearance as Couch Potato Al, Rose's newly retired boyfriend in the Season 3 episode of The Golden Girls titled "Rose's Big Adventure".
Career[]
Coe's Broadway theater career began in 1964 and included turns as M. Lindsey Woolsey opposite Angela Lansbury in the original cast of Jerry Herman's Mame and as Owen O'Malley in On The Twentieth Century alongside John Cullum"Rose's Big Adventure", Imogene Coca, Kevin Kline and Madeline Kahn, as well as creating the role of David in the original Broadway cast of [[George Furth and Stephen Sondheim's Company.
Coe was also an original member of the "Not Ready For Prime Time Players," the original cast of Saturday Night Live, but he was only credited as a cast member for the first three shows (October 11, 18, and 25 of 1975), often as a pitchman in commercial parodies. Coe was used in several other episodes of SNL, but was never again credited.
In 1979 he appeared as the head of Dustin Hoffman's advertising firm in the Academy Award-winning Kramer vs. Kramer. He was himself nominated for an Academy Award for the 1968 comedy short film The Dove, a parody of Ingmar Bergman's films, which he co-directed as well as starred in. Coe is also known for a guest-starring role in Star Trek: The Next Generation; in the 1991 episode "First Contact," he plays Chancellor Durkin, the leader of an alien planet with whom the Federation is attempting to establish relations. He also portrayed Ben Cheviot, the eventual head of Network 23, in the TV series Max Headroom.
His various television appearances include Murder, She Wrote, Bones, Judging Amy, The King of Queens, Nip/Tuck, Grey's Anatomy, Columbo, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Gilmore Girls, The Golden Girls, and as Senator Howard Stackhouse in two episodes of The West Wing.
Most recently, he voices the character of Woodhouse the much-put-upon butler in the FX animated series Archer. He voiced the Autobot Wheeljack in Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon.[1] Coe provided voice acting for the 2011 video games The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Coe died on July 18, 2015 in Santa Monica, California after a long illness at the age of 86.
