Biography[]

For much of his life, Al owned a deli. While Al was very active in life, his only big dream in life was to retire.

Shortly before his retirement, Al began dating Rose Nylund and became acquainted with her friends Dorothy and Blanche. At the beginning of "Rose's Big Adventure", Al sold the deli after decades of employment and finally retired. Rose was initially excited for him, but Al quickly became a couch potato afterwards. All the plans that Rose makes to go out are derailed by Al wanting to sit at home and watch TV, and Rose quickly becomes dissatisfied in the relationship. Rose tries to light a fire under Al by insisting that he finds something he's passionate about to pursue, and Al realizes that he has another dream -- to sail around the world.

Al spends his life savings on a crew and sailboat, and goes to Rose's house to tell her the news and ask her to sail with him. While Rose mulls over the offer, Al prepares for the voyage, only to find out that he's prone to seasickness.[1]
